Description:
Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp is set in a private wilderness concession of 25 000 hectares (61 800 acres) to the southeast of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve in the centre of one of the most unique regions in the world, the Okavango Delta. Renowned for its lush waterways and abundant wildlife, the Okavango is home to a number of aquatic and land species. Located in northern Botswana, the Okavango River is a unique natural phenomenon - flowing more than 1 000 km (620 miles) from its source in Angola, this river disappears beneath the sands of Botswana, creating a lush inland delta in the midst of this otherwise arid country. The Okavango Delta is in a constant state of flux, expanding and contracting according to the rainy season. While some parts of the Delta remain permanently flooded, others are only deluged during the rainy season from May to September.
Covering approximately one third of the Delta, permanent swamp areas are lush and green, with groves of wild date palm, papyrus and water lilies growing around deep lagoons lined with riverine forest. Seasonal swamps, on the other hand, contain a network of small channels cutting their way through papyrus and reed beds to create islands of all shapes and sizes. Xaranna is located on the channels and lagoons of the southern, seasonal part of the Delta. Xaranna enjoys luxurious solitude on its own Delta island within a 25 000 hectare (62 000 acre) exclusive wildlife concession. It is a delightful, airy camp with just nine sleek ensuite safari tents that combine canvas and bleached timber. All the tents have sweeping views across the channels. Each tent has a romantic sala, private plunge pool, indoor bathtub and al fresco shower. Guests can experience guided walking safaris, interpretive game drives and traditional mokoro excursions. Like the water lily from which it takes its inspiration, Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp nestles deep in the heart of the watery wonderland that makes up the Okavango Delta. Reachable only by boat during the high water season, this intimate camp with only nine tents offers an exclusive experience steeped in the wonder and magic of this extraordinary ecosystem. Float gently along clear, intricate channels and explore the myriad islands of the Delta from the light and airy base of this ethereal camp.
Reminders of the local wildlife are all around - sprawl among the hippos and crocs sewn on your comfy bean bag or kiss a couple of frogs lounging on lily pad shaped cushions! In the midst of crystal clear waters, surrounded by a mosaic of papyrus and reed beds, Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp provides an exceptional water experience. With sweeping views opening up onto a permanent lagoon, this serene and isolated Camp combines the best of what the Okavango has to offer. Glide silently on a mokoro, exploring the mosaic of islands nestled among a labyrinth of channels. Nine light and airy tented suites look out onto spectacular Delta scenery. Four poster beds of blonde wood squat on bleached floors, offering up extensive views onto the birdlife paradise awaits. An en suite bathroom promises the luxury of a deep, warm bath, and a refreshing shower waits either indoors or al fresco, open to the elements. Lull your senses with the quiet splash of nearby waters as you recline in your covered sala or get a different perspective on life, watching the waters of the Okavango from the cooling comfort of your own, fully sized private pool.
